The most important detail in understanding what we call money is to know some of the distinctions between fiat currency and sound money. In this Dollarcation visual aid I lay out some of the most important differences between the Federal Reserve Note and a Silver Dollar Coin. The most notable is the lack of purchasing power the fiat paper has over time in comparison to the silver coin.

Since your ability to purchase the same good and services over time with fiat currency diminishes, it would be in your best interest to measure your wages and wealth in physical weight. The weight as in ounces and grams which over time appreciates in purchasing power due to the monetary policies and mandates of the Federal Reserve System (i.e inflation).
