As COVID-19 spread, that chain became tested nationwide as it never has before. Faced with uncertainty, customers in the U.S. started to panic buy at supermarkets and wholesale stores, and shelves of certain products emptied out.
Fear of contracting the virus dramatically changed how Americans shop, as millions turned to online ordering, store pickup or home delivery for the first time.
